Oh the Places Millennials Will Go!

Millennials have been called a lot of things, "entitled," "job-hoppers," "lazy," and every other professional insult out there. Some of these labels have truth to them. Millennials are the most likely generation to switch jobs, want to work in other countries, and the most disengaged generation in the workforce. 

Instead of placing blame, we should look for positive solutions. 

Millennials might job-hop, yet they are also the most willing to work in less developed countries to help a company and advance their career. They are technologically savvy, efficient, and willing to work odd hours. 

Companies can utilize these traits to grow the overall business. There are many options to engage Millennials and enhance company culture, for example, creating communication channels to engage all generations, improving productivity measurements, and placing young people in leadership training programs. 

There was a time when companies invested in their workers and placed them on tracks for success. Many businesses have abandoned this practice and wonder why Millennials look for new opportunities. 

Let's also look at Millennials, they have a responsibility as well. They should look for companies where they want to work instead of where they think they should work. This is key. 

Yes, you the Millennial reading this, will be disengaged if you work at a job you never wanted to work at and only took the position because you thought it would offer comfort. You will spend every day wondering if you made the right choice. Only apply to places you really want to work, plain and simple. Save the HR team and company the hassle of vetting you if you don't really want to work at the places where you are applying.
