Everyone wants to have a following, but not everyone is willing to be a leader.
We all say we are passionate, competitive, and that we want to change the world. Yet, when challenges arise most of us give up. I include myself because I have given up sometimes too.
I wanted to be a professional basketball player and, even though I managed to play competitively until I graduated college, I gave up on that (which I think was a good move. because I stopped growing in height).
This is the reason why nowadays I start small with everything new that I want to do. I dream big, but I start small because I know that the key to achieving big things is to build habits.
You will not get fit in a day, even if you do 1,000 pull-ups. In fact, it is better if you only do 10 pull-ups a day but you do it 100 days in a row. The most important thing is to actually do the pull-ups, even if it is 1 a day. One is greater than zero.
Another key to being able to get to those 100 days in a row, in anything you want to do, is to have support.
Asking for help, or even allowing others to help us, is very difficult for competitive/type-A people because we associate help with weakness.
You need help, I need help. We all need help.
Being a leader is understanding that you have to be willing to show your weaknesses. You have to be willing to show your work even when it is not perfect because it will never be perfect!
Being a leader is showing up… every… single… day! Even the days that you don’t feel like it and you hit snooze 4-5 times.
It takes many years to be an overnight success so let’s get to it, let’s take action.
The Secret to reach 10,000+ Followers
During the summer I had the opportunity to help a non-profit startup that is working hard to close the achievement gap. I was able to help with their marketing efforts, and we reached 2400+ Instagram followers in 7 weeks.
In this article, I won’t go into details of the strategy we used, but if you are interested you can check it out here. Also, you can check out the specific resources and tactics that we used by clicking here.
After that experience, I decided to try these same strategies and tactics on my own. I wanted to be sure that the results could be replicated. So I created the Mindful Business account.
The goal was to use it as an extension of Your MBA Purpose, but in a different channel (Instagram). I wanted to test and experiment, something that may seem like work to must but it means fun for me.
Five months later the account has more than 10,000 followers. The best part is that it is just the beginning. I have no doubt that at some point it will get 100,000 or even 1 million followers. Yet, my focus is on the day-to-day actions that I have to take.
Most people would’ve given up a while ago because it takes a lot of time. It will continue to take a lot of time, and I know I won’t be able to monetize it for a while. This is the reason that you need a strong why. If the only reason you want to start something is to make money, then most probably you will give up.
I’ve maintained the efforts needed to grow the account because I’ve seen the impact that it can have on other people’s lives. Just receiving a message, from a complete stranger, such as “I just finished reading your article about Nobody Cares. It was very deep and I needed it”, means that it is worth it.
Yes, I want to make money. Yes, we all have to pay bills. But money is not a strong enough reason to help you power through the obstacles that life will throw at you. Especially when you decide to be an entrepreneur.
Do you want to have an impact, even if it is a small one?
Do you want to grow an Instagram following of 10,000 or more? These resources can help you:
Are you one of the crazy ones? Do you want to change the world?
I know that you may get tired. Sometimes, when it gets really tough, you may even ask yourself if it’s worth it. You may start to find excuses out of nowhere.
Hang in there! We are here to help each other.
Let’s make it happen together.
Most of the audience of the Mindful Business account is located in Houston. A big part of the audience is between 18 and 44 years, and the biggest group is the 25-34 range. Is this your target audience?
