If you want to win you first need to be clear about two things.
- How do you define winning?
- What is the game you are playing?
This is just the first step. Because there are different levels of “winning”. You can win the game, you can win an award, you can win the championship, or you can win multiple championships.
You can apply this line of thinking to any area. Sports, arts, business, politics, etc.
Let’s focus on you. Do you want to be great or legendary?
Both goals will require commitment and discipline. Both routes will be filled with obstacles, and it will not be easy. The main difference is the impact you will be having.
To a certain extent, you can be great by yourself, you can be an all-star depending just on you and on developing your skills. But if you want to be legendary you cannot do it alone.
You are a legend when people remember you. They will remember you because of what you did for them, for the way you made them feel. Being part of a great team, that keeps you accountable, is key to becoming legendary.
We can be part of something legendary. Do you want to take the next step?
The Journey to Incredible Begins
Let me tell you something, right away, so that there are no misunderstandings.
The journey never ends!
You will never get there because the only thing that is constant in life is change. There will always be new challenges, and as you grow these obstacles will probably get bigger. The sooner you accept this fact, the simpler it will be to keep taking steps and enjoying the journey.
It is very common to think that, in the context of education and professional growth, graduation is the “end”. Or at least a partial end. When in fact, it is actually the beginning.
At that point, you have earned the right to represent your school for the rest of your life. You are now equipped with the tools to face even bigger challenges and raise your school’s brand as high as you can.
I’m very lucky to be part of a great ecosystem at the C. T. Bauer College of Business. Everyone here is always open to sitting down with me for at least 10 minutes and give me their advice. We have great leaders and great opportunities, all I’ve had to do is show up and do work.
Others have walked this path before, a big part of what we have to do at first is just to follow their steps.
I have no doubt that the experience I’ve had at this school has changed the direction my life will take. This is why I will always look for opportunities to give back, such as being part of the Bauer MBA Ambassadors or leading graduate student organizations.
Are you also looking for opportunities to give back to your school?
Help Others Even if it is Only to Help Yourself
I get it. I’m a bit intense and obsessed about what I do; I drink the Kool-Aid.
Maybe you don’t feel the same way, and that is ok. But I’m here to give you some reasons that may change that.
You can be part of legendary. We can all go from credible to incredible together.
If you are as passionate as me about what you do, then you will have no doubt of the value we are creating. We are taking the brand of our school to the next level together.
You cannot spell Houston without UH and we know this. But it is time for the whole city, the whole state, and the whole country to know about this. The H-Town takeover is happening and no one will be able to stop it.
Still, you may not be convinced. Even if you are not so passionate you should still take part in this campaign. If you have graduated or are about to graduate, giving back will help you. By doing so you will help the school go up in the rankings, which will have a direct impact on how much you and your degree are worth in the professional marketplace.
From Credible to Incredible Thanks to You
